Alan Smith Gets Late Call Up For Tour Squad
July 16, 2007 by Keith
Manchester United striker Alan Smith has been given a surprise call-up for the club’s tour of the Far East. He was widely expected to move on this summer but this seems to be last chance saloon for Smith to secure a new contract with United. Smith is one of only two strikers included in the Manchester United squad so he is virtually guaranteed a game alongside United’s new number 10, Wayne Rooney.
Sir Alex Ferguson has included several young players in his touring squad including Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans, who made such an impact in Sunderland’s promotion season together with Darron Gibson, Danny Simpson, Chris Eagles and Phil Bardsley. New boys Nani and Owen Hargreaves are also named in the squad for the tour, which takes in Japan, Korea, Macau and China. A list of the upcoming friendly fixtures can be found here.
