Urawa Red Diamonds 2 Manchester Utd 2
July 17, 2007 by Keith
Manchester United kicked off their Asian Tour with an unexpected 2-2 draw against Japanese J-League champions Urawa Reds in a friendly match at Saitama Stadium, Tokyo.
United began the game slowly in typical pre-season friendly fashion, trying to play their way into it by playing leisurely possession football, but found themselves 1-0 down early on when a leaden-footed Van Der Saar was caught out by a speculative shot from Hideki Uchidate.
United levelled just after half time when Michael Carrick set up Darren Fletcher in the box to score with a low shot.
Cristiano Ronaldo gave Man Utd the lead in the 52nd minute with a typical run and shot after being released with a pass from Ryan Giggs.
Urawa Reds did not give up and kept attacking and were rewarded with a deserved equaliser 15 minutes from time.
